Frequently Asked Questions

What is Psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy helps individuals to understand their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours; it reinforces the development of healthy coping strategies and skills to treat issues and symptoms associated with mental health. Psychotherapy assists in emotional healing, promote well-being and increase resiliency by eliminating or managing challenging symptoms. People start psychotherapy for many reasons, such as:

Anxiety (general, OCD, phobia, PTSD)
Personality disorders (borderline, narcissistic)
Mood disorders (depression, bipolar)
Emotional regulation and unhealthy responses
Effective communication
Conflict resolution and stress reduction
Life changes (job loss, move, divorce, the death of a loved one)
Relationship challenges
Lack of motivation and focus
Low self-esteem/confidence

What is the difference between Psychotherapy and Coaching Sessions?

Psychotherapy sessions are billed through my registration number. Renata meets monthly with a psychotherapy supervisor, Julie Marquis, to confidentially consult on psychotherapy cases. Psychotherapy sessions may be an option for individuals with insurance coverage for “psychotherapist or psychotherapy services,” and/or if they do not require support from a psychologist.

Coaching sessions are billed through Renata's registration number. However, your insurance provider may not cover the sessions. If your insurance does not have such coverage options, it will require an out-of-pocket payment.

What can I expect during the consultation?

As our sessions are online, information to access the video conferencing program before the consultation will be provided. Renata will ask you questions about you, what brings you to therapy, your hopes and goals for the therapy as well as provide information on my approach and answer any questions you may have. In addition, we will discuss insurance coverage, session rate, and scheduling.

What is the cancellation fee?

Your appointment time is reserved for you only. The cancellation policy is in place to support the continuity of our work and commitment to the process of therapy. If you do not provide at least 24 hours cancellation notice or if you miss your appointment a full session fee will be charged.

Payment accepted by Credit Card and E-transfer through the Jane booking platform. Sliding scale fees are available. Contact me to discuss.

Is Psychotherapy covered under my insurance?

Therapy with a Registered Psychotherapist is tax deductible and can be claimed as a medical expense. OHIP does not cover Psychotherapy services. However, some insurance plans will cover Psychotherapy services. Please check with your insurance provider to find out if they will cover your services and a receipt will be issued for you to submit.

Here for you.
